Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Help Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

How you can show your support in breast cancer awareness month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same. We have made a lot of progress but still have a long way to go and need your help!

What is Cancer?  Breast cancer is a group of cancer cells (malignant tumor) that starts in the cells of the breast.  Cancer is a broad term for a class of diseases characterized by abnormal cells that grow and invade healthy cells in the body. Breast cancer starts in the cells of the breast as a group of cancer cells that can then invade surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to other areas of the body.

Cancer begins in the cells which are the basic building blocks that make up tissue. Tissue is found in the breast and other parts of the body. Sometimes, the process of cell growth goes wrong and new cells form when the body doesn’t need them and old or damaged cells do not die as they should. When this occurs, a build up of cells often forms a mass of tissue called a lump, growth, or tumor.

Breast cancer occurs when malignant tumors develop in the breast. These cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor and entering blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into tissues throughout the body. When cancer cells travel to other parts of the body and begin damaging other tissues and organs, the process is called metastasis.

Learn the facts:  One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women.
Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
Although breast cancer in men is rare, an estimated 2,150 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 410 will die each year.

Fall Baking Recipes

Who doesn’t love fall and fall baking recipes?

I was born in October and have always loved fall.  I love the changing of the leaves and the beautiful vibrant colors the season brings.  I love that the air is cool and crisp and you can wrap yourself in sweaters, sweatshirts, and scarves.  I love all the fall baking recipes like pumpkin pie, spice cakes, chili, breads, cookies.   I love snuggling up with hot cider or hot cocoa, fall festivals, fall crafts and pretty much anything fall.

Fall baking recipes in Florida

That’s all beautiful except now I live in Florida.   I grew up in the Midwest and lived there most my life up until last year.  I knew I wouldn’t miss the cold winters or the barely there summers, but I definitely knew I’d miss the fall.   It’s kinda of humorous how they act when it gets to be in the 60′s and 70′s here in Florida.  That’s their fall.  Out comes the winter coats, heavy sweaters, shovels and all winter things.     I didn’t even get out of my flip flops the entire year I’ve been here.   What’s also funny to see pumpkins, and fall decor in 80 degree weather, with palm trees.   Autumn and Christmas are just not the same here.  And neither is fall baking recipes.

Sharing 3 fall baking recipes from back home.

I’m going to share with you some of my favs and hope they become your favorite fall baking recipes too.   The first one I’m going to share is my Pumpkin Cake.  This is my absolute fav and I make this probably 3 times every fall.  OR more….smiling!

2 c. flour      2 tsp baking pwdr                                           Tip:  I thought the recipe needed a tad bit more sugar so you can

6 slices of bacon, 1 onion, 1 tbs flour, 6 c chicken broth, 6 potatoes chopped, 1 c. half & half and 1/2 c. potatoe flakes.

Whatever way you choose to create your fall baking recipes, this one is sure to please.

Last but not least in my fall baking recipes.

We have our Honey Beer Bread

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9″ x 5″ x 3″ inch loaf pan.

Ingredients:
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. honey or agave nectar
1 bottle (12 ounces) beer
4 Tbsp. (half stick) butter, melted (**You can double this if you’d like**)

(Makes 1 loaf)

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Using a wooden spoon, stir the beer and honey into the dry ingredients until just mixed. (I recommend putting honey in micro for a few seconds before. Makes it easier to stir in!)

Pour half the melted butter into the loaf pan. Then spoon the batter into the pan, and pour the rest of the butter on top of the batter. (Use a pastry brush to spread it around if you’d like.)

Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until top is golden brown and a toothpick/knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. Serve immediately.

Well, I hope that you have enjoyed all my fall baking recipes.  Share them with your family and friends.  If you try them out stop back and leave me a comment and let me know how you liked them.

Stop back.  Next month we have our “Featured Artist” month.  As well as our “Breast Cancer Awareness” month.  All new items on the site will be pink for the entire month of October.

How to Clean Silver Jewelry at Home

Author: shahar aharoni

I work with silver jewelry for the last 13 years (or more). Many of our clients ask us , how they can clean the jewelry that they have in their shops or how their end clients can clean the jewelry at home . So If you’ve ever worn silver jewelry, you know how tarnished / dirty or black they can get with time. it can get black in a very short time. Another problem with using silver polish to clean jewelry is that it can be hard clean all the nooks and crannies in your jewelry. so we are sharing here few nice and easy tips on how to clean silver at home .

There really isn’t much you can do about silver tarnishing. It’s just the nature of Silver. Silver metal reacts to chemicals. Whether it is chemicals in the air, or chemicals touching it. Silver reacts!

That’s why most Sterling Silver sold today is plated with a thin layer of metal protection. This process is called “Flashing”, and they use either Silver or Rhodium to coat the outside of the Rings or Jewelry to make them look Whiter, Brighter, and to keep the tarnishing down to a minimum. So until that plating wears off, your Silver will actually hold up pretty well.

Here’s a list of things that Silver has a bad reaction with: Wool, Rubber Bands, Latex Gloves, Oils from your Hands and Fingers, Ammonia, Chlorinated Water, Carpet Padding, Air Pollution, Perfumes, Hair Sprays, and believe it or not, some foods can even make Silver tarnish. Foods like: Onions, Mayonnaise, Salad Dressing, Eggs and Salty Foods. (Put down those Chips!)

In fact, just the humidity alone can cause Silver to corrode! It’s a never-ending battle.

The best way to store your Silver Jewelry is in individually sealed poly bags or zip lock bags. Store it with those cute little Silica Gel Packs and it’ll help remove any moisture from the air. It won’t keep your Jewelry from tarnishing, but it will delay the process.

Cleaning your Silver Jewelry with warm water and drying it with a soft cloth after you wear it, will remove any oily residue and slow the process down as well. But, if you have old items that become black , here is the way to clean them :

All you’ll need it :

  • Water.
  • An aluminum plate.
  • Baking soda.
  • Tooth brush.

so let’s go to work !

  1. Take the aluminum plate (make sure its clean) .
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda into the aluminum plate.
  3. Then pour some hot (but not boiling) water into the plate.
  4. Stir the water with the baking soda until you get a nice tick mixture.
  5. Now you can take the tooth brush and dip it with the mixture.
  6. Start scrubbing the silver piece with the tooth brush until its clean.
  7. Wash the silver items with water.
  8. Live the silver piece on a clean paper until it dry.

Another way to do it :

  1. Put the silver items into the aluminum plate .
  2. Cover the silver jewelry with baking soda .
  3. Pour hot water into the plate .
  4. Move the silver items with a spoon or any other thing ( don’t forget the water is hot ) .
  5. Live the silver items in the water for 2-3 minutes .
  6. Take out the silver items and let it dry on a clean piece of paper .

please note :

We do not recommend this cleaning method for jewelry that has precious or semi-precious stones.

Also, be aware that this method is not good for antiqued (oxidized) silver, as cleaning will remove the antiqued finish on the silver along with the tarnish.
